2020 was weird, this is undeniable and indisputable. We went from laughing at face masks, to matching our face masks to wardrobes. We went from having vibrant travel and social lives, to having burnt through just about every option on streaming apps and food delivery services. We have gone where no man or woman has gone before in our exploration of extreme isolation. We are the Neil Armstrongs of solitude, having successfully landed our butts on our couch from our bed and vice versa, 100’s of times over. One small step.

The world of dating HAD to be one of the weirdest areas of change, and Gen Z Tinder trends from Tinder’s “Year in Swipe” dating report reveal just how interesting things got.

Some of the top trends on Tinder included pairing based off of support for Black Lives Matter, Pandemic Pick-Up Lines (“Quarantine and Chill” anybody?) and sending signals that Anti-Maskers and Non-Voters, need not apply.

Most of all, it seemed like 2020 was a year of dating adaptation, finding new ways to connect and in a lot of cases just taking the opportunity to collectively share emojis that emphatically expressed “WTF?” at a year what will probably go down as one of the weirdest in dating history.
