If you’re a single lady who isn’t finding much luck dating, it may not be that your standards are too high, but rather, the men you’re dating are too old. According to a recent study, those women who seek younger male partners tend to be in happier relationships.
Even though you may want to take it with a grain of salt since Dr. Justin Lehmiller only surveyed 200 heterosexual women, the findings may resonate with you. The sex psychologist inquired about their relationship, the ages of both partners and how satisfied the women felt within the duo. Generally speaking, he discovered that those females who were 10 (or more) years older than their dudes were more fulfilled by the partnership.
But why? Especially since it’s safe to say men with less experience in the bedroom may not be as equipped to satisfy a woman who knows what she wants — in and out of the bedroom. But that’s part of it, actually. As Dr. Lehmiller speculated in a blog post, it could have a lot to do with the shift of power dynamic toward balance between the sexes. “We know from a lot of research that greater equality in a relationship tends to make couples happier, so perhaps it’s the case that this arrangement is just more equitable,” he wrote.
And part of it could be a role-reversal type of mentality that’s happening between the sexes. Dr. Lehmiller explains that while traditionally, men were seen as dominant and women as submissive, that isn’t the case anymore, as more females are open to being the ones in control. “We know that a lot of men are into the idea of submitting to a dominant, powerful woman — and they tend to see older women as having those characteristics,” he wrote. “After all, this is a big part of the reason why MILF-themed porn is so popular. So maybe it’s a feeling of empowerment that ultimately underlies older women’s greater feelings of satisfaction — and perhaps that empowerment allows women to get more of what they want, sexually and otherwise.”
So if you’re in the market for a great love — or even just great sex — don’t shy away from a large age gap. Even if you’re on the higher end of the spectrum. Who knows, it could be the change that results in exactly what you’ve been looking — and swiping — for all this time.
